Nicole Kidman’s ACM Awards Look, Love it or Hate it?

What do you think of her look? Love it or hate it?

Tell me, is it just me or do you also think ever since she married Keith Urban (no offense Mr. Urban), she has lost her ability to sparkle and dazzle on the red carpet (in this case orange)?

The interesting but unusual ensemble I am pertaining to is an odd combination of a military inspired structured dress paired with vintage (Victorian to be exact) inspired lace up booties.

I don’t know what she was thinking when she decided to wear this outfit but I wish I was there to at least give her a few tips. It doesn’t take a stylist to know something is wrong with the whole combination.

I can see the effort she took in trying to be trendy and fashion forward, but the effort left her looking a little off.

The whole look is so not the “Nicole Kidman, Celebrity Style Icon” I became a fan of. The shoes and the dress aren’t exactly bad, it’s just that each would look so much better with something else.

For instance, the dress would look better with platform pumps.

Looks like actress and producer Drew Barrymore was enjoying the city of New York last Tuesday. She was all smiles when she was spotted by the paparazzi.

Drew was looking like a cute tourist slash music lover in a fedora hat, retro sneakers, and military jacket. Around her neck were a set of headphones (yes, you heard that right, not earphones).

Love the look, by the way. I like the way she dressed up the light denims, striped shirt, and retro sneakers, with the jacket and hat. Without it, she would have looked like someone straight out of an 80’s magazine. Not the usual glammed up celebrity get-up that we see, but it’s definitely very original.

Want the look? To get it, you should wear the key items – retro sneakers, oversized military jacket, and a fedora hat. Oh, and don’t forget to wear your oversized sunglasses for that extra cool look.

Selena Gomez: Grecian Dress and T-Straps?

I found this picture of Selena Gomez while browsing through a celebrity website. This photo was taken last year, August 2009, when she attended the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.

After seeing this photo, I couldn’t help but compare it with the most recent one taken of her during last month’s 2010 Kids Choice Awards.

The look of the dresses are so similar – soft, feminine, and short, with a bit of draping; very Grecian.

However, I do think that she made a mistake with last year’s outfit by pairing it with metallic T-strap pumps instead of sexy strappy sandals. The shoes simply did not go with her Grecian inspired one-shoulder number.

If you can’t see my point, just try to imagine the goddess Athena walking in a beautiful garden wearing pumps. Get the picture?

A romantic looking dress, or a classic and structured piece would have done the T-straps pumps some justice. A few good examples would be the following:

Anyway, I think Selena learned from her style mishap last year because in last month’s Kids Choice Awards, she was looking spot-on. She chose a pair of snakeskin high-heeled gladiator sandals from Sergio Rossi to go with the yellow Grecian dress (as seen in the photo above).

Chuck Gets All Glammed Up! A Missoni and Converse Collaboration

I wrote about Chucks a few months ago. It was an entry on Nicole Kidman wearing classic chucks (click here to read article). Today, I am writing about this half-a-century old pair of rubber shoes once again. But this time, it’s about Chuck’s style make-over. And it isn’t just any make-over, it’s a luxe make-over.

Late last year, Converse collaborated with Missoni for its 2010 Spring Collection. Early this month, the fruits of that team-up materialized into a collection called Missoni for Chuck Taylor Converse All Stars. The collection was just released to the Missoni flagship stores in New York and Beverly Hills this week.

Women, and even men, will easily fall in love with these shoes. I know I have. Looking at it already gives me enough reason to purchase a pair of Chucks.

With its colorful and geometric signature Missoni pattern, these shoes are simpy irresistable to have? It’s rare and one-of-a-kind; and limited too.

I’m sure these shoes will get snapped up in no time. At US$200 a pair, the price is very accessible; even cheap to those who are used to buying shoes that cost along the high hundreds. I definitely see this collection getting wiped clean, it’s just so perfect for spring!

Elle Fanning is Keds Cute

I know Dakota is a really talented actress, but I have to say that her sister is much prettier than her. Just take a look at that face. And to think she is only 12! Imagine how she will look when she gets older.

Elle will soon appear in the movie, Vivaldi (a movie about musician Antonio Vivaldi), her first acting gig. I hope she will be as talented as her sister aside from having that pretty face.

Now let’s focus on Elle’s shoes…

Alexa Chung Dresses Down For a Change

Have you ever seen Alexa Chung dress down? Here’s a look:

Seeing her this way actually proves one thing – Alexa can pull off even the oddest or plainest of looks and make it look like a stylish ensemble.

If you look at the wardrobe piece by piece, it isn’t all that extraordinary, nor is it appealing to wear.

The tunic is just so-so and would probably look better with gladiator sandals; the shoes are too ordinary and vintage-looking, kind of like my grandma’s old sandals with thick soles; the leopard printed hat does not in any way go with the whole outfit; and even the black Chanel bag is inappropriate for the attire. But for some strange reason, together, the pieces seem to work on her.

So hats off to Alexa, she has that “IT” factor and the power to bend the rules of fashion to her favor. Chanel definitely made the right choice in picking her as its Brand Ambassador.
