Retro shoes will always have a special place in everyone’s shoe rack or wardrobe. They are classic and timeless. Every style is unique in its own way and you would rarely find a pair that is exactly the same as others. Some people even have made it a hobby of collecting retro shoes. Meanwhile, the footwear industry is re-creating these old time favorites in tuned with the latest tends to market it to younger generations.

It isn’t a surprise to find retro shoes alive and kicking! Actually it’s even easier to market retro styles because it can appeal to all generations. Older folks find themselves reminiscing of how they used to wear them, while the young ones are naturally curious to try them on! Designers tend to get inspired of works from the past which is why it is said that fashion is always recycling trends. What walks down the runway, magazines and boutiques are designs which absolutely have some taste of retro in it.

The 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s are the most celebrated eras in fashion. We all know that all of these eras have their own trademark. Shoes were used for rock and roll in the 50’s, flower revolution in the 60’s, disco dancing in the 70’s and power dressing in the 80’s. And within these different periods in time, there were shoes that did stand out and we fell in love with! That’s why it became easier for retro shoes to make a comeback today.

Sneakers have made a successful comeback for quite some time and it now comes in variety of style. Nike now is re-launching sneakers it had from the 70’s and 80’s. Back then remakes have also been prevalent. In 1999, Jordan Air IV was re-launched after its successful debut in 1989. This retro shoe was named after the Michael Jordan, a legendary basketball player who has millions of fans world wide. So the comeback of retro Jordans did please a lot of people especially those who grew up idolizing Michael Jordan. What’s great about retro shoes is not only its memorabilia factor but also its mass appeal.

Jelly shoes are revisiting us again from the 80’s! The original Jelly shoes are made from plastic or PVC. World War II paved the way for the creation of plastic shoes because leather at that time was running out. And in recent news, New York Times have mentioned that some well known brands are manufacturing jelly shoes, but with styles more than the usual which are round toed flats. There’s now high heeled plastic shoes- a great alternative to the expensive leather counterpart.

Chucks came back with a vengeance 5 years ago. Converse created Chuck Taylor All Stars from a basketball player Chuck Taylor in the 50’s. He agreed to make his name be adapted for the shoe because he was impressed by the design. Although prior to agreeing, he proposed some changes before his signature is placed on the shoe’s ankle patch. His name is the key to the shoe’s popularity especially to the hood in the 50’s. Currently, Chucks are adored by everyone- girls, boys, women and men! Styles come in low-tops, high –tops, and lace-less low tops.

There are more retro shoes soon to comeback in the future. For sure it will be a hit because not only will it be upgraded but its unique features that made it famous in the first place will be retained. Thus, it will greater-way better than its glory days.
