70s Clogs Now Available at a Store Near You

by Erika

I can’t believe we’ve gone so long in this blog without mentioning clogs.

As other shoe blogs have already mentioned, the footwear that’s making the biggest comeback this 2010 is the clog. Yes, the clunky, chunky, awkward-looking shoe is making it’s way around to the top of the fashion cycle again and this year, it made its debut at no less than the front page of Vogue:

The clog styles that are coming out now don’t really venture far from the styles in the 70s when the clog was at the peak of its popularity. However, they are a far cry from the original clogs of the 1800s, as worn by the Dutch (and surrounding countries):

The original clogs – which are still being produced today – are a lot chunkier and thicker at the top of the shoe, but this is precisely what makes them the footwear of choice for workers who need protection for their feet. This original clog, the traditional all-wooden Dutch clog, are officially accredited as legitimate safety shoes as they have been tested to “withstand almost any penetration including sharp objects and/or concentrated acids” (from Wikipedia).

Up until recently, clogs have mostly been used by professionals such as nurses, chefs, and flight attendants whose line of work requires them to be on their feet all day. But this 2010, the clog has been given a major makeover and is currently considered as the hottest thing in footwear fashion right now.

Are you a fan of the clog? If you are, then you’ll like these 3 latest clog styles. If you aren’t, then these new styles just might change your mind:

Matisse Taylor, marked down to $100.76

Me Too Censor, now only $89.06

These aren’t clogs just for gardening!
